Traveling with a larger group? We have 7 well-spaced cabins and a campground at Nor’Wester. We offer canoe outfitting and/or canoe rentals -- this a great base camp if you want to explore lakes and the surrounding Gunflint Trail area. It's a wild place here, so it's easy to get the feeling that you have the trails to yourself.
Our gift shop offers a wide variety of unique gifts, groceries, ice, gas, and a laundromat just steps from our main lodge. We provide complete and partial outfitting services from our base on Poplar Lake.
How about a BWCA day-trip outing, or just plain relaxing and re-connecting with family and friends. Both are a big part of cabin time around here. There's good hunting in the fall and the back roads light up with brilliant reds and yellows. No matter what season it is, you can start your fishing adventure right out the front door on Poplar Lake, then move on to the other scenic, clear and remote lakes in the Gunflint Trail area.
Our rental season is year around. We are a premier destination for snowmobiling thanks to reliable snow depth from December though March. Ride from groomed snowmobile trails to your door.

MaryAnn Harren — 5 star. We have been coming to the Gunflint Trail area for over 40 years. One of our favorite Lakes to canoe is Popular Lake, a beautiful lake with many islands about 30 miles from Grand Marais. We have been renting canoes from Nor'Wester Lodge. This is an excellent entry point to the lake for both day tripping or for starting a trip into the BWCA. Nor'Wester has a great variety of canoes and very friendly people who will meet your needs.
Michelle Alexander Peterson — 5 star. My husband and I along with our golden retrievers have been coming to the Gunflint Trail for more than 15 years. We have stayed at many places, but our favorite has been Nor'Wester Lodge! They have the best swimming beach of any resort and I love to swim. The cabins are all right on the water except for Balsam which is just up a short hill with a beautiful lake view.
Matt Sweetman — 5 star. I've been staying at the Nor'Wester for 17 years. Beautiful place, wonderful people. Can't wait to go back. Thanks Carl and Luana!
Christina Lynn— 4 star. Very nice people and lodge to stay at. Took your concerns and addressed them!
