Things To Do

No matter where you stand on the island, you’ll hear the sounds of waves lapping on the shores. Best of all, some of the best fishing on the lake is around this island! Your rustic island stay includes solar power, battery powered shower head and rainwater collection system.

Since you book directly with us at Ely Lodging, we can give your lots of local tips. BWCA stretches along 150 miles of the international border adjacent to Canada's Quetico Provincial Park. With 1175 lakes (from 10 acres to 10,000 acres), over 1200 miles of canoe routes, and 12 hiking trails - you could visit for several years in a row and experience something different each year. BWCA permits are required.

When the snow flies, so to the sled dogs: Enjoy the winter scenery of the lakes and trails on the back of a dogsled (a great way to access remote ice-fishing lakes)! Popular hiking trails include Bass Lake Trail, the Angleworm Trail, Trezona Trail, Hidden Valley, Secret/Blackstone Trail and the Snowbank Lake Trail. Let us know your skill level and we’ll suggest some trails that pass through landscapes formed by glaciers that retreated 10,000 years ago.

Ely has some great northern Minnesota golf courses, a wide variety of stores, Bois Forte Heritage Center and Cultural Museum, Dorothy Molter Museum, Ely Arts and Heritage Center, International Wolf Center (a multi-million dollar interpretive museum), North American Bear Center, Homestead Tours, Soudan Underground Mine, 2.7 billion year old Pillow Rock.

Reviews

The home was beautiful! We would recommend it to family and friends. Owners were very helpful if you have a question. We were there when the leaves were at fall color peak - just a wonderful, relaxing vacation. The views from the home of the lake were breathtaking. Marilyn
Ely is a very special place that allowed us much needed rest in a truly beautiful and comfortable place surrounded by natures finest. Lorelee - Minnesota
