We built the Bluegill Cabin in 1997 with “lake enjoyment” in mind - a few steps to the water’s edge. Screened in porch keeps you bug-free and outside, and a fireplace warms your spirits on those late fall through early spring evenings. Our resort is open Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.
The Bluegill Cabin has a full kitchen that includes microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishes and cookware. A boat is included with any of our 6 cabins.
The Wilds Resort is family owned and operated so we understand how important your vacation is! You’ll love our clean large beach and swimming area with lots of toys: Go paddleboating, canoeing, or kayaking. Maybe you’ll just want to sit at the end of your dock, dangle your feet in the water and watch the spectacular sunsets!
Welcome to 3,146 acre Shell Lake! Our 50 acres of tall pines and white birch will quickly put you at ease. Our walleye, northern, large mouth bass and perch fishing will get you excited!
Sleeping arrangement: Two bedroom’s with queen beds, and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. A log futon was recently added for extra guests.
It wouldn’t be a real Minnesota resort without a main Lodge. All ages can look through 100’s of DVD’s to watch on the large-screen TV in the viewing room. Plus a game room where rainy days lead to lots of competition at the pool table and video game machines. Even little ones have their own toddler room. When the sun comes back out, let the kids imagination GO at the playground.
Meet other guests on the huge great deck. Since you book directly with us here at the Wilds Resort, we can hook you up with a pontoon boat, fishing boat and motor rentals, gas and oil, live bait, and bagged ice. Cabin time in Osage, MN includes lots of time on Shell Lake. Bring your boat and dock it at the resort! Use our boat launch.
Get geared up for a northwoods-style setting and some friendly Minnesota hospitality! Stop by the resort Lodge and see our full short-order menu: Sandwiches, dinner baskets, popular pizzas, ice cream treats, snack items and a variety of beverages. Go home with some resort swag like a warm jacket, sweatshirt, Tee shirts, shorts and ball caps. Find grocery items and guest laundry too!
Our Minnesota resort is full of surprises. Horseshoe pits, bocci ball, tetherball, volley ball. When it’s time to relax after a day outdoors, watch a movie on the 32 inch screen television with Blue Ray DVD Player (no channels). The Wilds Resort and Campground is a four-season vacation destination.
For nearby adventure head to Itasca State Park where a small stream is the beginning of the Mississippi River. The Bluegill Cabin at The Wilds Resort is also next to The Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge (a good spot for birding) so watch for bald eagles, whitetail deer, black bear and coyote. Other points of interest for your group are 2 great towns; Park Rapids and Detroit Lakes (home of the WE Fest). Learn something local at the Hubbard County Historical Museum, or The North Country Museum of Arts. Ask us about the shops, golf courses, amusement parks, horseback riding, and festivities.

We bought the property that would become The Wilds Resort and Campground in 2001 with a dream of raising our family in an unspoiled natural setting. We moved north with our five children and put all of our accumulated skills in carpentry and decorating to use by renovating the seven existing cabins and the lodge.
The resort is always a work in progress, with the most recent major renovations being the new build of the two-story Wolves Den cabin and the remodeling of Loon’s Nest in 2007. Together, we have cultivated the ideal location to spend quality family time with our kids — and we love to share the space with other families. Welcome to the Wilds!
