“Up North” is the theme at our Wilds Resort Northern Cabin rental. 600 square feet of tastefully decorated charm. A northwoods-style setting is highlighted by 50 acres of tall pines and white birch that changes with the Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter seasons. Summer belongs to long days building castles in the sand at our beach area.
Newer large picture window gives wide views of the northwoods and Shell Lake - recently remodeled interior. Smaller flat screen TV has Blue Ray DVD Player, no channels. The camp cook will appreciate the full kitchen that includes microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and full selection of dishes & cookware.
Our Wilds Resort features a Main Lodge, so stop by and see all the amenities: We can cook up a variety of sandwiches, dinner baskets or our popular pizza. Watch a movie on the large-screen TV in the viewing room (we have 100’s of DVD’s.) Our game room is usually filled with kids and teens playing pool and video games. We carry some grocery items and provide a laundry room, toddler room, and library. Meet other resort campers on the Lodge deck - the place to kick back and relax.
Sleeping arrangement: 3 bedrooms have full beds. Northern Cabin on Shell Lake also has a living room loveseat style sleeper. Up to 7 guests.
A boat is included with your cabin! Need more power? Bring your own boat or rent a pontoon boat and tour 3,147 acre Shell Lake. Stop at some fishing hotspots and catch dinner! Bluegill, Sunfish, Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Walleye, and Perch. Top off on gas, oil, live bait, and bagged ice before you head out for the day! Enjoy your private dock - dangle your feet in the water, or cast a line and catch some fish.
The Wilds Resort & Campground has 6 lakeside cabins and a 14 site RV Park.
Whether you stay at our family resort on the edge of Shell Lake, or explore our Up North neighborhood, we (Barry and Kristy Wilde) can help you connect with nature and area activities you won’t want to miss. You book directly with us, so a tour guide is included:)
At the Wilds Resort: Boat launch, volleyball, basketball, playground, fun bug, kayak, canoe, swimming raft, paddle boats, horseshoes, tether ball and bocci ball. It all takes place along the edge of the Smoky Hills forest area.
Right next door is the Tamarac Wildlife Refuge - 43,000-acre preserve featuring wildlife habitats, wild lands, and the Pine-To-Prairie Birding Trail. Watch for bald eagles, whitetail deer, black bear and coyote. 45 minutes down the road and you’ve arrived at Itasca State Park - the Headwaters of the Mississippi River. Yes, the Mississippi River begins its 2,552-mile journey to the Gulf of Mexico from here and you can tiptoe across its bubbling beginnings!
Stroll the small town of Park Rapids and get a history and art lesson at The Hubbard County Historical Museum and The North Country Museum of Arts. Did you know? Park Rapids has been honored as one of the Top Ten Charming Minnesota Main Streets. “Up North” shopping and antiquing at its best!

We bought the property that would become The Wilds Resort and Campground in 2001 with a dream of raising our family in an unspoiled natural setting. We moved north with our five children and put all of our accumulated skills in carpentry and decorating to use by renovating the seven existing cabins and the lodge.
The resort is always a work in progress, with the most recent major renovations being the new build of the two-story Wolves Den cabin and the remodeling of Loon’s Nest in 2007. Together, we have cultivated the ideal location to spend quality family time with our kids — and we love to share the space with other families. Welcome to the Wilds!
