Wolves Den Cabin is a comfortable lakeside getaway for those who like to travel in a pack. This spacious, 10 to 15-person rental on Shell Lake is constructed of heavy timber with an A-frame roof that creates a unique, vaulted-ceiling living space filled with natural light from high windows.
The home is roomy, with more than 2,000 square feet of indoor space, and has great views of the lake. The living and social spaces are wheelchair accessible, as are the majority of the bedrooms. The ground-floor bathroom has an accessible shower with a built-in seat.
The central living space includes a fully equipped, modern kitchen with a breakfast bar and stools, as well as a dining room with a long table and chairs for eight. The open floorplan connects to the sitting room, where guests can relax on a full sofa and reclining chair in front of the stone hearth fireplace and 42-inch flat-screen TV with a DVD and Blue Ray player.
The upstairs loft overlooks the great room and is finished with a secondary. lounge area with a sleeper sofa and futon. This makes for a great kids’ area, with fun extras like a Little Tykes table and chairs for a coloring station. The second story bathroom also has a large jetted tub.
Sleeping arrangements: This cabin offers five private bedrooms — three on the ground floor and two on the second story. Each of the main-floor bedrooms is furnished with a queen-sized bed, as is one of the upper-level bedrooms. The final bedroom on the second story is equipped with two full-sized beds. Additional couch and futon space provide for a total capacity of 15 guests.
Wolves Den Cabin is one of six family cabins that shares a Northwoods setting right on the shore of Shell Lake in Osage, Minnesota. The Wilds Resort and Campground offers a number of little extras for guests, including a sandy swimming area, outdoor fire pits and grills, complementary boat rentals and boat launch facilities, and the convenient resort Lodge. The Lodge offers a short-order menu of sandwiches, pizza and dinner baskets, as well as beverages, snack items and ice cream treats.
The Lodge is also home to additional social and lounge spaces, such as the fireplace and viewing room, where guests can settle in in front of the big screen with popcorn and enjoy a selection of hundreds of DVDs. Guests have access to a game room at the Lodge, complete with pool and arcade games, as well as a gift shop, a selection of grocery items, a guest laundry room, a playroom, and a library. Outdoor facilities at the Lodge include a large deck area and fish-cleaning house.
Shell Lake cabins at Wilds Resort and Campground are tucked into a scenic nook between the Smoky Hills State Forest and the Tamarac Wildlife Refuge of Northern Minnesota. Shell Lake offers 3,146 acres of exploration and recreation space, perfect for swimming, boating, fishing and paddling.
The resort is surrounded by a leafy expanse of pines and birch trees, which make it a wonderful destination for bird watchers. Visitors to the area can expect to spot chickadee, hummingbirds, warblers, finches, owls and even eagles in the forest, while the lake is home to ducks, herons, cormorants and loons.
If you like to fish, be sure to bring your poles and gear — Shell Lake is known for walleye, norther, bass, perch and sunfish. But watching for wildlife isn’t the only pastime we engage in at The Wilds — we also offer outdoor activities, including horse shoes, tether ball, bocce ball, volleyball, basketball…there’s even a playground for the kiddos.
In winter, the fun doesn’t have to stop. The Wilds Resort offers easy access to miles of scenic ATV and snowmobile trails, as well as opportunities for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and ice fishing — and there’s hot chocolate waiting at the Lodge when you get back!

We bought the property that would become The Wilds Resort and Campground in 2001 with a dream of raising our family in an unspoiled natural setting. We moved north with our five children and put all of our accumulated skills in carpentry and decorating to use by renovating the seven existing cabins and the lodge.
The resort is always a work in progress, with the most recent major renovations being the new build of the two-story Wolves Den cabin and the remodeling of Loon’s Nest in 2007. Together, we have cultivated the ideal location to spend quality family time with our kids — and we love to share the space with other families. Welcome to the Wilds!
