With so much to do right at the Cabin O’Pines Resort, you may not need to go anywhere else. However, if you want to venture out, there are plenty of fantastic places to see. The Voyageurs National Park is a 30-minute drive and a “must see” destination formed by volcanic and earthquake action and sculpted by glaciers. The glaciers melted over 10,000 years ago, exposing some of the oldest Precambrian rocks in Minnesota.
The ecology of the area includes a diversity of plants and animals with boreal and northern hardwood forests. Inhabitants include moose, gray wolves, black bear, beaver, bald eagles, loons and owls. If you are a birder, be sure and bring your binoculars to catch a peak of the numerous warblers and double-crested cormorants.
Take a short drive into Orr and visit the Bois Forte Heritage Center and Cultural Museum located on the grounds of the Fortune Bay Casino. The museum is dedicated to the history of the Bois Forte Ojibwe tribe and includes a birch bark dwelling, tipi, and trail to the remains of an 1886 gold mine. The museum’s Lifeway Exhibit features ricing, crafts, art, beadwork, and basketry. You can purchase wild rice, jams, arts and crafts, and bead supplies at the museum’s gift shop.

Cabins are clean and comfortable. Campsites are easily accessible. The staff is welcoming and helpful. There are plenty of amenities and activities at the resort and things to do in the area if you decide not to fish. Why would anyone not want to fish? The fishing is really good. In other words, my son and I fish all day everyday while my wife and daughter enjoy some fishing, some relaxing and some of the area activities. Highly recommended. My only complaint is the 358 days until we return seem more like a thousand and the week we are there goes too fast. Jim Aron
This is a awesome place to come!!! We will be back next year. Great place to unplug and relax. The fishing was great. We have 4 kids ages 19, 16, 10 and 9 and they all had a blast. They especially love that you can fish from the dock and catch lots of panfish. Our older children love that you can use paddle boats, kayaks, and the paddle boards for free. The owners were great and helped with anything we needed. Bathrooms were the cleanest I have seen in any resort. Stephanie Georgen
Great amenities on a beautiful lake! Highly recommended. They offer paddleboards, paddles boats, kayaks, boat rentals, a playground, fire pits and much more. Great getaway! Whitney Reinken
We just returned from the resort. This resort is an excellent place to spend some time to strengthen family bonds, enjoy great fishing and just slow down a little. The facilities are comfortable, clean and the resort is well run. Service and support are excellent. Fishing tips from resort personnel are unmatched and produced a great catch for dinners. Our family was so impressed with Cabin O Pines that we reserved 2 cabins and one campsite for the same time next year. Rudi Edel
