Shing Wako Cabin 5 has a great view of Lake Edward, about 150 yards from the sandy swimming beach. The cabin includes a well-equipped kitchen, one bathroom and two bedrooms. We also provide CTV, wifi, a charcoal grill, a picnic table and private fire pit for this cabin. This cabin is perfect for small families or groups that are looking for a relaxing getaway on the water.
The Shing Wako Resort consists of 12 cabins and 6 reunion lodges. Between mid-June and mid-August, you can book a “week,” checking in after 9 am on Saturday and checking out the following Friday before 10 am. You can also book a less than week stay; Friday – Monday for 3 nights or Monday – Friday for 4 nights. Either one is the same rate for the same size cabin. From May 1 to mid-June and mid-August to September 30 we have a minimum 2 night stay.
Sleeping Arrangement: The two bedrooms include one double bed in each room. One of the bedrooms is in the screen porch. The living room also includes a sofa sleeper that can sleep an additional two people for a total capacity of six individuals.
The Shing Wako Lodge was built in 1937 and has a long, unique history behind it. The name Shing Wako comes from the indigenous word for white pines. In the 1930's there were many white pine in our area and the locals referred to them as Shing Wak's. Today, you can still see the white pines that were around when the resort was first built.
The Edward Lake is also a very unique feature to the Shing Wako Resort. The beach is a very gradual, sandy beach which makes it perfect for swimming! There is lots of open space to relax and enjoy yourself without having to worry about other nearby cabins or resorts. Lake Edward is over 2,000 acres with an average depth of 15 feet. The lake allows for lots of fun water activities in addition to the relaxing atmosphere of laying on the beach.
Cabin 5 of Shing Wako presents so many opportunities for fun activities. Enjoy free use of our paddleboards or rent a boat for family fun! Our paddleboats, kayaks, canoes and life jackets are included with your cabin rental. The lake is stocked with walleye and is also home to the northern pike, largemouth and smallmouth bass, sunfish, and crappies; perfect for fishing. The resort also includes two playgrounds, carpet ball, horseshoe pit, volleyball, tetherball and basketball courts for fun on land as well.
Explore the Brainerd area: Zip line tours, festivals, golfing, hunting, shopping, hiking trails, and more. Bike right from the resort to the Paul Bunyan Trail - through one of Minnesota’s most popular vacation areas from Crow Wing State Park. Staying in the winter? More than 1,200 miles of well-groomed snowmobile trails run through the Brainerd area.

Many thanks for the very relaxing and memorable stay at Shing Wako.
