A quality, family-fun vacation experience is what we offer at the Shing Wako Resort. Enjoy the crystal clear waters of Lake Edward, the large sandy beach, and eleven park-like acres of land to explore. Shing Wako is an 18 cabin resort that offers cozy 2 bedroom cabins and reunion cabins. Have more than 6 guests? Rent out some of the other cabins. Cabin 4 comes with a CTV, wi-fi, full kitchen, and a screen porch. For outdoor entertainment, Cabin 4 comes with a deck, charcoal grill, picnic table, stack chairs, and a private fire ring. Plenty of seating for everyone. Have a grill out during the day and roast marshmallows under the starts at night.
Between mid-June and mid-August, you can book a “week,” checking in after 9 am on Saturday and checking out the following Friday before 10 am. You can also book a less than week stay; Friday – Monday for 3 nights or Monday – Friday for 4 nights. Either one is the same rate for the same size cabin. From May 1 to mid-June and mid-August to September 30 we have a minimum 2 night stay.
Sleeping arrangements: 2 double beds (with one on the screen porch) & a sleeper sofa.
The name of our resort, “Shing Wako” comes from the indigenous word for white pines. In the 1930's there were many white pine in the area. The locals called them Shing Wak's. Today you can still see the white pines that were around when the resort was first built in 1939.
On the resort grounds you will find walking trails, paved biking trails, two playgrounds, carpetbag, horseshoe pit, volleyball, basketball, tetherball, and plenty of green space for other yard games.
Keep you eyes open for unique birds in the area. American Goldfinch, Ring-billed Gull, Green Heron, Blue Jay, Wood Duck, Osprey, Great Blue Heron, and many more. Bring your camera!
Rent a motor boat or one of our pontoon boats and head out on Lake Edward. Don’t forget to bring your fishing poles. We also provide a fish cleaning station after a long day of fishing for walleye, sunfish, northern pike, etc. Each cabin comes with a paddleboat, single & double kayaks, canoe, and life jackets. Our guests love swimming in the crystal clear lake.
Brained is a popular destination in the winter as well! 1,200+ miles of well-groomed snowmobile trails run through the area. Downhill skiing, tubing, cross-country skiing, and more! We are willing to open in the winter with a 3 night minimum stay and advanced reservation given. Nearby is the Paul Bunyan Trail - a 110 miles of level, paved trail takes you through one of Minnesota’s most popular vacation areas: Crow Wing State Park.

Marty and Sue, Thanks again for the wonderful family vacation you provided for us. The cabin with awesome kitchen, bathrooms & beds, the grounds, beach, pontoon, and all the fun things to do and still have enough space to feel private are AMAZING, the fact that you keep up with it all is equally amazing. The whole place is kept so clean and maintained right down to the wonderful firewood you brought to us nightly. Not many, if any resorts are keeping up to these standards anymore.
How children friendly this resort is – perfect for family reunions, the clean cabins & water, privacy
Fishing! Reunion Lodge layout superb, awesome!
We were so impressed with the grounds & all the care that you put into keeping it so neat & cared for – you’re doing such a great job! We liked the un-cluttered grounds, quiet, very relaxing accommodations, NO RV’s Great!!, wonderful family resort! Please keep it as it is – so uncrowded, not cramped with too many cabins & people, very welcoming. Jim & Cathy
