Though our Aurora Studio cabin is meant for 2, it is part of the Big Wilderness Lodge resort with 15 well-spaced cabins (big and small). Aurora newly-remodeled with knotty pine interior; all-new, well-stocked kitchen with full-size gas range, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, small electrical appliances, fully-equipped with dinnerware and cookware.

Guest will enjoy time in the cabin and outside on the lakeside deck. Fire up the charcoal Weber grill and surprise your honey with a great meal for 2. Relax and enjoy the views from the picnic table or the patio furniture. Don't just look though - get out there by bringing your own boat, renting one of our fishing or pontoon boats. Free to our guests are kayaks, canoes and paddleboats.

Sleeping arrangement: Simple. A queen-sized bed, perfect for couples. Full bath with tub. Bathroom is handicap-accessible.

Unique Features

Don’t miss our meet and greet Sunday mornings in the Lodge. Then get out on the lake for a day of fishing. Big Lake is one of the DNR's top-rated walleye lakes and also holds northern pike, smallmouth bass, and perch - it’s right out your front door.

Explore numerous hiking trails at the resort and nearby. One of our favorites is the Bass Lake trail - a scenic waterfall, Berry picking, bird-watching, and wildlife. If you prefer a more rugged trail through stands of pine with high ridges with scenic overlooks, head to the Angleworm Trail. Take a day hike to Devil's Cascade which is 6 miles (one way) from the trail-head and see the waterfall on the Little Indian Sioux River.

Things To Do

How is this for a northern Minnesota backyard waterpark ...1,800 acres of water, 14 islands. Big Lake is a scenic lake with rocky shorelines with ledge rock points. Welcome to our remote Wilderness Resort located 23 miles north of Ely, MN. It’s not your typical resort though - your vacation experience embraces expansive solitude because we're the most remote drive-in resort in northern Minnesota.

Off-resort tourist activities include: Dorothy Molter Museum, the International Wolf Center, the North American Bear Center, the Ely-Winton Historical Society, and the Soudan Underground Mine State Park.

These are some of the special sights and sounds of the wilderness you'll experience. Inquire early because spring, summer and fall lodging fills up very quick.
