We're the most remote drive-in resort in northern Minnesota.
Basswood is one of 15 cabins at our Big Lake Wilderness Lodge Resort. It has a well-stocked kitchen complete with a large table that seats 12. Plus a dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, small electrical appliances, with dinnerware and cookware.
Sleeping arrangement: All five bedrooms are on one level and have two twin beds that can be made into kings per your request.
Basswood's bells and whistles include a large family room, washer and dryer, outdoor barbeque & entertainment area, free use of kayaks, canoes, paddleboats and a stunning view of the sunset.
While remote, our location offers several half-day trips around the Ely Area. Visit the Dorothy Molter Museum, the International Wolf Center, the North American Bear Center. The kids will also enjoy putting on a hard hat and dropping 2,400 feet down at the Soudan Underground Mine State Park.
If you decide to drop anchor at our Big Lake Wilderness Lodge, you better bing the fishing gear. Big Lake is one of the DNR's top-rated walleye lakes and also holds northern pike, smallmouth bass, and perch. Our fishing season opens here May 12th.

Your final destination includes one million acres of wilderness and waterways in the heart of the Superior National Forest - the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW) the largest wilderness preserve east of the Rocky Mountains. Hiking trails and 1,500-plus miles of water trails! Within a few miles of the resort, there are exceptional hiking trails to explore: Bass Lake, Angleworm and more.

Fee is $95 per week or $19 per night per pet.
Fishing boat, motors and pontoon boats are for rent. Deposits: A deposit of 50% of the cabin rate is required to secure your reservation. Deposits are due within 10 days of your reservation request. Payment in full for reserved cabin and equipment is due at check-in. If your cancellation notice is received less than 60 days in advance of arrival, refunds minus a $150 service fee will be made ONLY IF the cabin is rented to another party for the entire time of the original reservation.
