Step into Inn Suite #7 and let the serenity of Lake Superior greet you at the door. This large, ground‑level suite is part of our handcrafted inn and is only steps from the shoreline. A covered porch leads to your own private patio, and once inside you’ll find an open floor plan that makes the most of the views. A plush queen bed sits near picture windows, while a cozy living area with wingback chairs and a window seat invites you to relax and listen to the waves. Our fully equipped kitchen—with a microwave, stove, oven and refrigerator—makes it easy to cook meals, and the adjacent dining alcove is perfect for sharing a meal or puzzle.
Designed with couples in mind, Inn Suite #7 blends comfort and romance. A wood‑burning fireplace anchors the living room and fills the space with the sights and sounds of a crackling fire. Nearby, the queen bed and deep spa tub both look out toward Lake Superior, so you can soak or drift off to sleep with a view. The kitchen counter has stools for casual dining, and the dinette sits in its own alcove next to the kitchen, letting you enjoy the lake while sharing a meal.
In every season, this suite immerses you in the magic of the North Shore. Summer guests sip coffee on the patio and watch ships and sunrises over the water; in winter, sea smoke rises off the lake and turns the landscape into a wonderland. A large walk‑in closet and thoughtful details—like plenty of hooks, plush towels and artesian well water—make extended stays easy. Whether you’re planning a weekend escape or a longer retreat, Inn Suite #7 offers privacy, comfort and front‑row access to Lake Superior.
Our guests love the romantic touches in Inn Suite #7. The wood‑burning fireplace is a rare treat and includes everything you need to light a fire. A deep spa tub sits next to the queen bed so you can soak while watching the waves, and an inviting window seat lets you curl up with a book or simply gaze across the lake. We’ve included a full kitchen stocked with cooking essentials and a spacious bathroom with a corner shower and plenty of plush towels.
This suite is also practical. A walk‑in closet offers room for luggage and gear, and there are lots of hooks and thoughtful touches throughout. Just outside your door, a private patio overlooks Lake Superior and leads to multiple campfire circles where guests share stories under the stars. Watch ore freighters and “salties” glide past, spot owls and other wildlife in the spruce trees, and enjoy immediate access to the paved Croftville Road and parking area.
At the resort, your days can be as lazy or as active as you wish. Start with a sunrise stroll along our rocky beach and collect smooth stones or build inukshuks on the shore. Spend afternoons reading on the window seat, cooking a special dinner in your kitchen, or lounging on the patio while the lake breeze keeps you cool. In the evening, gather around a campfire with provided firewood and watch the stars emerge over Lake Superior.
We’re just three miles northeast of Grand Marais, so it’s easy to explore town. Browse local art galleries, sample artisan foods, and learn traditional crafts at the North House Folk School or the Grand Marais Art Colony. Enjoy fresh fish, coffee shops and live music at the harbor, or climb the scenic lighthouse for panoramic views. Seasonal festivals like Fisherman’s Picnic and Moose Madness offer fun community events.
Our location on the North Shore puts you close to some of Minnesota’s finest outdoor recreation. Drive Highway 61 to visit state parks such as Cascade River, Judge C.R. Magney and Temperance River. Hike to waterfalls, bike along the Gitchi‑Gami State Trail or paddle the sparkling inland lakes. In winter, cross‑country ski or snowshoe on groomed trails, or head to Lutsen Mountains ski area just a short drive away. The Gunflint Trail offers additional hiking, paddling and wildlife spotting opportunities.
You can also day‑trip to destinations like Grand Portage National Monument or the Ontario border, or simply stay put and watch freighters and wildlife from your patio. No matter how you spend your days, you’ll return to Inn Suite #7 to relax by the fire, soak in the spa tub and fall asleep to the sound of waves.

Croftville Road Cottages is owned and operated by the Chmelik family. Mike and Teresa Chmelik purchased this historic fishing property with friends in 2003 and spent several years renovating the cottages and building the inn. They opened Croftville Road Cottages on January 1, 2007, and continue to live on‑site with their family. As caretakers and hosts, they’re passionate about preserving the history of Croftville while sharing the beauty of Lake Superior with guests. You’ll often see them tending the grounds, answering questions and making sure every stay is special.
