Perched on the top floor of our historic inn, Inn Suite #8 is an airy retreat that feels both private and enchanting. Guests reach the suite via an outside stairway to a covered entry porch and a dramatic interior staircase. Once upstairs, a wall of windows frames a sweeping bird’s‑eye view of Lake Superior and invites you to unwind beside a romantic wood‑burning fireplace.
The thoughtfully designed interior features a cozy queen bedroom with plush bedding and French doors that lead to a partially covered balcony high above the shoreline. The living room’s futon and cushioned window seat provide extra sleeping spaces for up to three additional guests (best suited for children). A full kitchen and dinette area come equipped with a refrigerator, microwave/oven, two‑burner stove and basic utensils so you can enjoy simple meals with an unforgettable view.
A clawfoot soaking tub sits in the bathroom’s sunny alcove with windows overlooking the forest, and a spacious walk‑in closet makes it easy to settle in. A decorative gas stove in the bedroom adds warmth on cool evenings. This charming attic suite sleeps up to five and includes access to our 660‑foot stretch of private Lake Superior shoreline, picnic tables and a lakeside fire ring—everything you need for a memorable North Shore escape.
Unique Features
Occupying the entire attic level of the inn, this suite provides soaring views of Lake Superior and an unmatched sense of privacy. The combination of a wood‑burning fireplace in the living room and decorative gas stove in the bedroom means you can choose between the romance of crackling logs or the convenience of instant heat. A cushioned window seat beneath large lakeside windows invites you to read, nap or simply watch the ever‑changing water.
A partially covered balcony high above the shoreline is perfect for sunrise coffee or evening stargazing. Inside, a clawfoot tub sits in front of windows that look out into the surrounding forest, and the spacious walk‑in closet makes unpacking a breeze. On the grounds you’ll find a lakeside stone fire circle, picnic table and seating; and 600 feet of private shoreline just steps from your door.
Things To Do
Our property is located three miles northeast of downtown Grand Marais, so you’re minutes from restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, art galleries and the famed Grand Marais harbor. Stroll along the Lake Superior shoreline, explore the unique shops and learn about local history at the North House Folk School. In summer, rent a kayak or take a guided boat tour to see the rugged shoreline from the water.
Outdoor enthusiasts will find miles of hiking and biking trails in Superior National Forest. The Gunflint Trail and Pincushion Mountain area offer scenic overlooks and varied terrain for serious hikers and casual walkers alike. In winter, head to Lutsen Mountains ski area for alpine skiing or cross‑country ski on groomed trails. Year‑round, you can visit nearby state parks such as Cascade River and Judge C.R. Magney to witness waterfalls and basalt canyons.
Back at the resort, unwind on your balcony with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. Spend evenings around the private fire circle listening to the waves lap at the rocks. Our 660‑foot shoreline is ideal for skipping stones, watching freighters pass by and marveling at star‑filled skies free from city lights.

Reviews
This suite was the perfect perch for our anniversary getaway. We enjoyed cozying up by the fire and watching the waves from the window seat. – Amanda
From the balcony we saw stunning sunrises and even the northern lights! The kitchen was well-stocked and the clawfoot tub was luxurious after a long hike. – Mark
We brought the kids and there was plenty of room. They loved the futon and the fire pit, and we loved being so close to Grand Marais but still right on the lake. – Sarah
