Moose Lake Resort has been a family-threaded slice of Northwoods history since 1946, when Del and Elvera Hall (part of the extended Stennes family) bought the place back when “resort life” meant seven cabins, cold running water, outhouses, an icehouse, and—no joke—a cow named Daisy Mae helping supply the ingredients for homemade ice cream. It started simple, a little scrappy, and wonderfully human: the kind of lakeside getaway built on fresh air, honest hospitality, and the sort of stories guests still tell decades later.
Over the years, that same family spirit stuck. After Elvera sold the resort in 1966, Jack Buhn, Paul Stennes, and Richard Stennes purchased it from interim owners in 1972—and from there it’s been a long, steady evolution of remodeling, additions, and new building, without losing the “come as you are, stay as long as you can” feel. Today, we’re proud to offer clean, fully furnished, lakeview cabins—some newly built, others thoughtfully updated—while welcoming generations of returning guests who treat Moose Lake Resort as part of their own family tradition.
