WA-GA-THA-KA—Chippewa for “dwelling place among the birch trees”—has been welcoming lake-lovers since the Roaring Twenties. Back then, schoolteachers Morey and Barbara Miner traded chalk dust for pine needles, purchasing a modest slice of Wabana Lake so they could spend summers earning a little extra while sharing their favorite corner of northern Minnesota. As their boys Jon and Doug grew, so did the resort, evolving from a handful of rustic cabins into a cherished tradition that carried the family through six decades of laughter-filled fishing trips, marshmallow-toasted sunsets, and lifelong friendships forged on the dock.
 
Although Morey and Barbara passed away in the 1980s, their spirit still ripples across the water each morning. Today the third generation—grandsons Mark and Jay and their families—tends WA-GA-THA-KA with the same hands-on warmth. You’ll notice fresh updates inside the cabins, smoother docks for tying up the boat, and a few thoughtful perks (yes, the Wi-Fi reaches the hammock). What hasn’t changed is our promise: your crew comes first. Whether you’re teaching the kids to paddleboard, chasing walleyes at dawn, or simply stargazing through the birch canopy, we’re here to make cabin time effortless and unforgettable.
