Unique Features

We have direct access to approximately 17 navigable miles of the 49 mile long Vermilion River system. The fishing is unparalleled in the modern age. Walleyes, Crappies and other species are available, especially during key time periods. The Vermilion River is protected from the elements such as wind - that means little to no white caps. The river is banked on both sides by wild rice and due to water fluctuations there is no steadfast depth. On the average it varies from 10 to 30 feet. There are some holes that are 50 feet.

Bear hunting is excellent. Baited stands are provided by a licensed guide in Northeastern Minnesota bear management area 25.
Grouse hunts available too.
Have a graduation, small wedding or family reunion with us. It's been done before.

Things To Do

We would suggest that you bring food although there is a grocery store in Orr Minnesota. Get ready to do some wilderness fishing like never before.
shopping/golfing dining and a church are a short distance away.
The adventures and memories are unlimited. Take in the area views or explore one of the area other waterbodies(but you really might want to just stay were the fish are)!

Northern Minnesota abounds in Ruffed Grouse, Spruce Grouse and Duck. You just found a great relaxing, fishing and hunting resort.

Reviews

We just wanted to let you know we had a great time. In fact, we liked so much we would like to come back in September if at all possible. The dates we were looking at are September 16, 17, and 18. We would still need a boat and gas. Plus, there will be three people this time. Bill and Kathy Wright
Jake Reese— 5 star. This place has the best fishing in Minnesota for pike. I have also caught walleye and smallmouth bass here. Every time we are able to fish here we get into several big fish. Fish next to the weeds!
Rich and I wanted to again extend our thanks to you for everything during our stay this past week. While it was disappointing not to get a bear, we really enjoyed our stay - it was a great week! Sue Schabert
If you're looking for a relaxing place to connect with nature and your family away from civilization this is the place. Family owned and operated resort smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Breathtaking views along the river and crazy fun fishing. Jill Bedard
this was an amazing place to have a mini vacation, it's a 5 star resort with 5 star accommodations and Lief and Xrs are 5 star people... thank you all so much for providing us with a great opportunity and experience. Joe Schaffer
It's the place to get away from it all, while doing the thing I love...fishing. It was hot. the fishing wasn't the best, but the memories and just being with nature are worth it. I'd highly recommend the Echo trail Tavern as well for a night out after a hot day spent on the river. Going to be there on a Friday or Saturday night?? They have the best pizza. BEST pizza! The road to the gold mine is kinda rough and narrow and makes for a fun ride. At night its almost mesmerizing. Amy Lynn Priewe
We had a great time at the Gold Mine!
Haven’t been back at the Gold Mine for over 30 plus years but remembered all of the old fishing spots and they still produced fish.
155 fish caught in 2 and 1/2 days. Walleyes,Northern and 1 ,5 lbs small mouth. 5 Northern over 30 inches. Two at 36 inches. Kids ,Grandkids all caught fish.16 of us. Leif was super helpful. Cabins were basic but very clean. Jeff Young
Camp was great and clean. The owner, Leif was a good host. Boats were always clean, fuel in the tanks, docks were nice and can accommodate lots of boats. Price for the week stay and boat rental was cheap. Overall great experience. Steve Kelbley

About the Owner/Manager

My name is Leif Gunderson. I have spent over 30 years finding and developing the most unique fishing opportunities found anywhere. We have been able to keep our resort small. This allows a friendly down-home atmosphere and speaks to the old resort phrase, “Come as a guest – Leave as a friend.” Our emphasis on you, the customer, will be obvious during your first visit.

Thanks for stopping by,

Leif and Christine Gunderson
