At Eagleview Cabin, the lake is part of the day even when you stay up at the house. Our wooded setting looks out over Gull Lake from a high bluff, with a deck for gathering above the water and a dock below. Take the stairs or use the hillside tram during its May-through-October season, then come back up to a cabin arranged for a family vacation or a group of up to 12.
Four bedrooms give couples and families their own doors to close, while the open loft adds a queen futon and a trundle with two twin mattresses. The main level has a king suite and a queen bedroom; two more queen bedrooms are downstairs. With three bathrooms, a kitchen table seating eight and a second table for six on the lower level, the group can share a home without having to do every activity in one room.
Spend the afternoon on the water, bring dinner out to the deck, or let a board-game session develop its own suspiciously complicated rules downstairs. The outdoor hot tub seats six to seven and faces the lake, making a smaller gathering within the gathering. This is a quiet residential neighborhood in Fairview Township, with a Nisswa mailing address; we welcome time together, with the volume kept neighborly.
The hillside tram makes the trip between bluff and shoreline an unusual part of a stay here. It carries up to four people at a time and operates May through October; stairs provide the other route down. The dock has tie-up space for your boat and steps into shallow water with a firm sandy bottom. Please plan for stairs at the house and along the lake approach even when the tram is operating. The steep slope and roped-off areas need particular attention when traveling with children.
Inside, the remodeled kitchen opens beneath a high ceiling, with a loft overlooking the main gathering area. The lower living room has a gas fireplace, television and another dining or game table, so an early bedtime needn't end everyone else's conversation. The king suite includes a workspace, backed by mesh WiFi. We also provide a travel crib, highchair and children's dishes, making it easier to pack for a group that spans several ages.
The two kayaks and paddleboard give you a way to explore from the dock when lake conditions suit your group. Bring your own boat to use the dock's tie-up space, or arrange a separate rental through a local operator such as Cragun's Marina, which accepts public rentals. For launching, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Gull Lake Recreation Area has a public boat ramp, along with designated fishing areas and picnic spots. Rental boats, guides and launch arrangements are separate from your cabin stay.
For an outing on dry land, start a walk or bicycle ride on the Paul Bunyan State Trail from Nisswa; the DNR lists parking off Smiley Road. Choose an out-and-back distance that fits the youngest rider rather than committing everyone to a long route. The former railroad grade offers an easier-paced alternative to a wooded trail outing, and you can build in time for a stop in town.
Pillsbury State Forest offers a different kind of afternoon. Use the Shafer Lake Day-Use Area as a planning point and consult the DNR trail map before choosing a route. The forest's rugged trail network is shared with horseback riders; it suits a group wanting woodland terrain rather than a paved stroll. Check current forest road and trail conditions before setting out.
Winter brings skiing, snowboarding and snow tubing at Mount Ski Gull; check its operating calendar and reserve the appropriate tickets or lessons for your dates. When the golf courses are in season, Madden's welcomes public tee times across its four courses, with club and cart rentals available separately. Back at the cabin, corn hole, ladder golf and the firepit offer a less scheduled way to finish the day.
