A Duluth day can start with a Lake Superior view before you have decided where to go. At Rose Garden Getaway, our enclosed front porch faces London Road and the lake, with Duluth's Rose Garden and Leif Erikson Park across the street. This renovated neighborhood home puts the waterfront, city attractions and a drive up the North Shore within the same vacation plan.
The house has about 1,400 square feet, with a traditional layout and four bedrooms upstairs: a king room, two additional bedrooms and a bunk room. We can host up to nine guests, though the living room and dining table each seat six. One full bathroom upstairs and a half bath on the main level mean a little coordination helps when everyone wants to leave at once. The whole home is yours, with separate rooms for meals, conversation and winding down.
After exploring, make supper in the furnished kitchen, settle into the living room or claim a seat on the porch to watch the light change over the lake. A workspace with a monitor can accommodate a little necessary desk time, and off-street parking is available behind the house. One well-behaved dog, up to 75 pounds, is welcome with a pet fee and advance arrangements. Bring your dog's own bed so every traveler has a familiar place to land.
Original hardwood floors and built-in dining-room shelving keep the home's older Duluth character visible alongside quartz counters and stainless steel kitchen appliances. The dining area includes books, board games and a desk with a monitor and chair. A separate kitchen nook seats three, providing another place for breakfast or an afternoon snack without clearing a game off the main table.
The furnished front porch is enclosed with large windows, giving you a sheltered place to look toward Lake Superior. Another upstairs bedroom opens to a small balcony overlooking the backyard. All four bedrooms and the full tub-and-shower bathroom are reached by stairs; the main-level half bath is convenient during the day. We provide a travel crib, highchair and children's dinnerware, but the stair-based layout is an important part of deciding whether the house fits your group.
Begin with the view from the porch, then cross London Road to explore Duluth's Rose Garden and Leif Erikson Park. The public garden is free to visit, with seasonal roses, other plantings and places to pause above Lake Superior. The flowers make this a different outing in summer than in the quieter months, when the lake view can be the main attraction.
The nearby Lakewalk offers a paved route for a walk or bicycle ride, with nearly eight miles in the full city system. Choose your own out-and-back from an open access point rather than treating that as a loop length. The city's 2026-27 shoreline improvement project affects this neighborhood: sections east and west of Leif Erikson Park currently have closures and detours. Check the city's latest project update and posted signs before planning a continuous waterfront route toward Canal Park.
For a closer look at Duluth's architectural history, choose a tour at Glensheen, the historic Congdon estate on London Road. Compare the current self-guided, specialty and grounds options so you book the experience you want. Golfers can arrange a public tee time at Enger Park, while seasonal adventures at Spirit Mountain range from winter skiing to lift-served mountain biking during the warmer operating season. Tickets, equipment and outings are arranged separately.
On a wet or windy day, Great Lakes Aquarium combines live animals with hands-on exhibits; look for native Great Lakes fish in the two-story Isle Royale exhibit and the interactive water displays. The Lake Superior Railroad Museum at the Duluth Depot is another indoor choice. If a train ride is on your wish list, check the North Shore Scenic Railroad's excursion calendar and reserve the specific departure; the museum and train schedules are different.
